PURPOSE OF THE WEBINAR

Under the topic  “Scaling Up Quality Diagnostics in Early Childhood Education and Development (EECD) Programmes  in Africa”, the webinar will be  convened by the AU ECED Cluster in partnership  with Ministries of Education of The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Uganda, and Zambia, AfECN, UNICEF and ECD measures  as part of efforts to promote AU 2024 theme of the Year “ Educate an African fit for the 21st century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa

PRESENTERS and PANELIST

Mr. Kalimbika has occupied a number of positions across the Public Service over the last 25 years, including Assistant Director – Human Resource Development and Training at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and Public Service Management Division and Director – Governance at the Ministry of Justice. Mr. Kalimbika is also Chairperson of AU ECED Cluster Policy and Advocacy Working Group. He has worked extensively in early childhood education, governance and human resource development and training. He holds a Diploma in Agricultural Education, Bachelor of Adult Education and Master of Arts in Human Resource Management.

Rebecca Sayre Mojgani is the Chief Operations Officer at ECD Measure, where she leads partner engagements and product development for the Brief Early Childhood Quality Inventory (BEQI). Her work at ECD Measure centers around building capacity and facilitating collaboration to collect and use data to improve young children’s early learning experiences. She has worked on early childhood and education programming, policy analysis, and strategic planning for the World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Brookings Institution, and ADEA. She holds a master’s in international education policy from Harvard.

Josephine Ferla is a Senior ECCD Specialist for Africa region based in Dar es salaam, Tanzania; she has worked as an ECD specialist for the past 13 years.  In addition to her ECD work in Tanzania, Josephine has also worked in other African countries including Zambia and Malawi supporting various ECD interventions. She holds a Master degree on Childhood and Youth and also BSc - Early Childhood Studies.

Josephine’s current work under Save the Children US involves providing ECCD TA support to Country Offices to design, implement, monitor and improve the quality of ECCD programs in collaboration with program staff. Josephine is a master trainer in Science of ECD supported by Aga Khan University and also Care for Child Development (CCD) – UNICEF/WHO package. Josephine is an active member of the Tanzania ECD Network (TECDEN) where she participates in national ECD Secretariat. Josephine worked with AfECN as the in-country lead consultant on development of the National Multisectoral ECD Programme for children aged 0–8 years (NM-ECDP).

Olímpia da Moura has a degree in Psychopedagogy from the University of Leningrad in the former Soviet Union. She has extensive teaching experience in Bissau-Guinean public education. Since 1986, she has held various managerial positions in the Ministry of National Education, including the role of General Director of Basic and Secondary Education. Since 2014 she has served as Director of Services for Pre-school Education and Early Childhood Development at the MoE, responsible for designing and implementing strategies for the pre-school subsystem. She is currently the Ministry's focal point with the UNESCO national commission.

Lamin Jobe is currently a statistician working with The Gambia Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. He earned his master’s degree in statistics tenable at the University of Gaston Berger in ST. Louis, Senegal. He has held various positions at the Ministry as a senior education officer and recently he is implementing different projects with Ministry in collaboration with the University of The Gambia. There is no iota of doubt in his aptitudes and well of knowledge.

Abdul Malik Muwanga is a seasoned educator and policymaker with an Early Childhood Education background, he is a Doctoral Research Fellow at Makerere University, College of Education and External Studies, holds a Master of Education Policy Planning and Management, a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Teacher Education; a Bachelor of Arts with Education; and a Diploma in Education.

Josephine Kabila is a Curriculum Development Specialist at Curriculum Development Centre (CDC). Her work involves developing and evaluating teaching/learning materials to facilitate quality education delivery. A focal point for the IT’S PLAY PROJECT. She has supported ECE activities in the Directorate of Curriculum Development for a number of years. As an educator, she has worked as a teacher at primary school, secondary school and did part-time lecturing at a local University. Trainer of authors for educational materials. She holds a master’s in education from University College Dublin (UCD), A degree from University of Zambia, Diploma in teaching Art and English and a Primary Teacher’s Certificate.
